Wow.. I have been last year (2017) on San Juan, but this was real madness.. Party everywhere all night long on the beach, alcohol everywhere, firecrackers or fireworks, crazy people, dancing and singing people. Definitely the best day in whole Spain (okay Catalunya). These people of Barcelona know, how to celebrate.

This night is for you. You are totally free. You can do anything, anywhere :D. Thousands of people sitting on the beach from around 4PM and celebrating all night long. Fireworks and petards making accompany to you all the night. So be prepared, that you can not sleep this day. So if you want to go to the beach, be prepared that there will be tons of people.
